One of my favorite genres is science fiction/space opera and The Last Praetorian by Mike Smith is the epitome of this genre.  I really liked this book.

The storyline was full of non-stop action and adventure. It was hard to catch my breath between the twist and turns. Mike Smith did a great job developing the story making it easy to follow and get into. This was one of those stories that I did just that and got absorbed by it. The action and space battles were written in such a way as to be very real and believable.

I also liked the way the author developed each of the main characters. The background into their lives and history made it easy to identify with each of them. I found myself cheering them on. It was hard not to get emotionally involved with each character.

I really enjoyed The Last Praetorian by Mike Smith and highly recommend this book to all readers.

It seems I am reading and reviewing more and more children’s books and this was an exceptionally good book. Harrison Goes Camping by Becky L. Howard is a great book which will keep children and one old grandpa glued to the pages.

The author did an excellent job telling an exciting story about a family camping trip. From the first page you can feel the excitement building.  The illustrations, done by the author, were great and added to the fun of the story. I also like the little snippets of scripture found at the bottom of each page.

I totally enjoyed Harrison Goes Camping by Becky L. Howard and highly recommend it for your children’s, and grandparents, library.

This is one of those “WOW” books which will totally captivate you. Slaves of Valhalla by Luke Romyn is the second book of The Prometheus Wars series and it will keep you breathless just like the first book. The non-stop action and adventure is great.

Luke Romyn did an excellent job of storytelling in this book, making it exciting and easy to follow at the same time. The continual twist and turns of the book made it a hard book to put down once I started reading. I really got into the story and adventure.

The author took the main characters of the first book and continued to develop and strengthen them. At the same time he added new caste members which just made the story more exciting. The characters were well developed and very believable. I found it easy to follow along as an unseen caste extra and really get into the story.

I really enjoyed Slaves of Valhalla by Luke Romym and highly recommend it to all readers.

Short Stories to Tickle Your Funnybone by Robert Thornhill will keep you laughing even after you have finished reading. This collection of short story excerpts from Robert Thornhill’s Lady Justice mystery/comedy series.

Each story is able to stand on its’ own and is hilarious in content. The stories are so realistic and believable you will be able to put yourself into the situation.

The author has succeeded in two of his primary goals. First, he has made me laugh throughout the book. Second, he has made me want to read more books in the Lady Justice series.

Robert Thornhill’s writing style will keep you glued to the book from start to finish. Here are two warnings from the book about the Lady Justice series.

“Lady Justice novels my cause insomnia. Never start a Lady Justice novel just before going to bed. You won’t be able to put it down.”

“Extreme caution should be used when drinking beverages or if your bladder is full, since reading a Lady Justice novel may cause spontaneous outbreaks of uncontrollable laughter that may cause liquids to squirt from bodily orifices.”

I really enjoyed Short Stories to Tickle Your Funnybone by Robert Thornhill and look forward to reading other books in his series.

I highly recommend this book.

If you like yuck and yucky stuff you will love Um… Mommy, I Think I Flushed My Brother Down the Toilet, again (Return to Yuck Kingdom #2) by Jeff Rivera. After reading the first book of the series I just had to read the next and I was not disappointed.

Return to Yuck Kingdom #2 is the continuing adventures in the the Land of Yuck by Falisha Whiskers and her brother Jesse. It has all the yuck and yucky creatures for you to enjoy.

Just like the first book I think this one is well written and funny to ready. If your children loves yucky adventure they will really enjoy this short book.

I enjoyed this book and recommend it.

If you like the epic struggle between good and evil you will love Turns by Eric Dontigney. This is a fast paced, high action adventure that does not slow down from page one to the end of the book.

In today’s world where magic and the forces of power are everywhere there a few heroes that stand out and Eric Dontigney’s lead character is just such a man. Even though the distinction between good evil often blurs and monsters abound Eric’s writing style makes it easy to follow along. The story is well developed and very believable.

The characters are also well develop and could be your average next door neighbor. The bad guys and magical creatures even take on a degree of reality which leaves you thinking, “What if?” I really enjoyed the way Eric Dontigney delved into the lead character’s mental state. This made him more believable and real. It made it easier to identify with him.

I really enjoyed reading Turns by Eric Dontigney and I highly recommend this book if you like this genre.

One caveat. I do recommend you read the first book of the series, Fails (see my review dated Dec. 2012), before this book. It will help the story flow smoother.

Boomerang: The Return of the Prodigal Son by Britt Rickey is the story of, in the author’s words: “A wayward son. A broken father. An angry brother. A story for today.” It is a great study of God’s unending love taken from the story of the prodigal son out of the Bible.

The author did an excellent job of breaking the story down into its individual segments and analyzing each. He was able to relate each to everyday situations and the personal needs of modern day life. I especially like how the author related his own personal life events with the story. This added another level of realism to the life application.

Britt Rickey’s style of writing made it easy to follow the story and various sub-themes in the text. He brought the story down to my level and comfort zone. This helped me personalize the story and apply it to my life.

I really enjoyed reading Boomerang: The Return of the Prodigal Son and highly recommend it to all readers. Everyone will find some life application in this book.

Do you like a book which grabs you by the seat of your pants and refuses to let you go? Season of the Harvest by Michael R. Hicks is just such a book. I hated putting this book down once I started reading. In fact I got completely caught up into the story and adventure.

The author did an excellent job of developing the storyline of this action packed adventure. Even with all the great twist and turns it was easy to keep up with the action. At times you will be holding your breath waiting for the next unexpected twist to occur.

I really like the way Michael R. Hicks develop each of the main characters in the story. They were both real and easy to identify with. Being able to identify with the characters made the story all the more believable.

If the next two books of the trilogy are as exciting as the first, look out.

I really enjoyed reading Season of the Harvest by Michael R. Hicks and I highly recommend this book to all readers.
